Archaeologists are continuing to discover more traces of early human settlement in Malaysia which is uncommon in other parts of the country. One such site is the Sungai Batu Archaeological Excavation site which has uncovered signs of a sophisticated settlement including a clay brick monument, remains of a jetty and an iron smelting site dating as far back as 788BC, making it the oldest recorded civilization in Southeast Asia with the oldest man-made structure . (earlier than the Angkor Wat of Cambodia).
